Question: Three numbers totaling 14. The value of the first is half the value of the second and the value of the third is twice the value of the second. So what is the first number?

 

Solution:

A+B+C=14
A=1/2×B
C=2B

A+2A+2(2A)=14
7A=14
A=2

B=2(2)
B=4

C=2B
C=2(4)
C=8
