The rungs of a 10 foot ladder attached to a ship are 1 foot apart.

Riddle: The rungs of a 10 foot ladder attached to a ship are 1 foot apart. If the water is rising at the rate of one foot an hour, how long will it take until the water covers over the ladder?

The answer of this riddle is that it will never cover the ladder because as the water rises, so will the floating ship. In other words, unless the boat begins to sink, the water will never cover the ladder. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if the steps of a 10-foot ladder attached to a ship are 1 foot apart and the water is rising at a rate of one foot an hour.

As the water rises, the ship, which is floating on the water, will remain floating, the water doesn’t cover it. Since the ladder is attached to the ship the water will not cover it either.

Answer:  It will never cover the ladder because as the water rises, so will the floating ship.
