# If I had 4 eggs and a thief gave me 3 and my rooster laid 5 more

Riddle: If I had 4 eggs and a thief gave me 3 and my rooster laid 5 more – how many do I have? Lets look the answer.

It’s a simple math riddle. If we think carefully, we can find the answer very easily. If you still haven’t found the answer, let’s look the solution.

Firstyl,  the riddle says “If I had 4 eggs”. The word “if” makes this phrase a script so you have 0 eggs at this point.

Secondly, riddle says, “A thief gives me 3”. So now we have 3 eggs.

Finally, rooster laid 5 eggs. Be carefull ! Roosters do not lay eggs.

Totaly: 0 + 3 + 0 =  3 eggs I have.

a thief gives me 3.
3 what?
eggs are not specified. still have zero eggs.

The whole statement is an ‘if’. So IF you had 4 eggs, you would have 4. And IF anyone gave you 3 more eggs, you would have 7. And IF your rooster, in fact, laid 5 eggs – no matter how improbably that is – you would have 12 eggs. That’s how the statement is worded.
