Riddle: I am the beginning of sorrow, and the end of sickness. You cannot express happiness without me, yet I am in the midst of crosses. I am always in risk, yet never in danger. You may find me in the sun, but I am never out of darkness. What am I?

While solving this riddle you need to think the words as they are rather than their meanings. Sorrow and sickness are not positive terms while happiness is. How these three can something in common then?

 

Probably only thing that these three terms have in common is the letter S. In real life risks that you take mostly have something in common with danger, but not in this riddle since the word danger does not include the letter S. Also, the letter s is both in the word sun and the darkness, two opposite concepts.
